RAY PALMER grew up in Philadelphia, PA.  He started playing drums and discovered his musical talent at age 9.  By age 13, he introduced himself to piano and went on to add guitar and saxophone to his music portfolio. ​

 

Ray 's music career began at age 15, when he started songwriting and performing as a drummer and then expanded to singing and playing the keyboard for both cover and original bands.  He helped form the popular local bands, Coercion, 3 Mile Island and 64 Quarts.  Following high school, he formalized his music studies by attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.



Ray produced, wrote and co-wrote albums with his brother, Walt Palmer (Frontman, Singer, Lead Guitarist), Steve White (Singer, Guitarist), and Mikie McKillip (Bass).  Performing as the band Coercion, they recorded an album titled "Nothing Here Real".   The 3 Mile Island band formed and produced their 2007 “Radio-Active” album that earned them recognition and airtime on the WMMR radio station.   In 2010, 3MI recorded their “60 Strong Words” album.  Since then, Ray rerecorded their music under the “Songs” album, and recently produced the album "S.P.A.C.E. Sessions"- a collection of original vocal and instrumental songs written, orchestrated, and performed solo.

In 2011, Ray's talents and musical knowledge helped local Philadelphia group, Fish Out of Water, draw in the party crowd.

In 2013, Ray was invited to join LeCompt, a band established since the 80’s, to form a trio group.  At the time, Ray's career primarily focused on the drums, but he also played the keyboard and guitar, and contributed as a lead and backup vocalist for the band.

As a freelance artist, Ray's multifaceted career includes original and cover bands, trio and solo performances, duets, and pairing up with family and friends to perform as The Ray Palmer Band. 

 

In 2018, Ray added a Billy Joel tribute band to his music portfolio and performed with a group called The Angry Young Band. 

 

In 2019, Ray joined the collaborative effort to reform the Fish Out of Water Band.   

 

Ray has over 15 years of experience in the music industry as a musician, singer, songwriter, and teacher of drums, piano and voice.  When he's not performing or teaching, he works in his home studio recording music, beats and producing songs.
